Charles Short is an Okanogan County District Court judge. He served as presiding judge from 2015-2018.

He is president of the Washington State District and Municipal Court Judges Association (DMCJA). He serves on the DMCJA Executive Legislative Committee, Diversity Committee, and Council on Independent Courts. He is a member of the Gender & Justice Commission’s E2SHB 1320 Protection Order Technology Work Group. He has served on the Washington State Domestic Violence Perpetrator Treatment Work Group and the Washington State Board for Judicial Administration Education Task Force.

Judge Short is a fellow with the Judicial Engagement Network, a national community of judges leading efforts to improve court responses to domestic violence. He has served as faculty for the Washington State Judicial College and the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence. He has also served as a consultant and faculty for the Center for Court Innovation on the topic of domestic violence. He worked in private practice with an emphasis on criminal and family law litigation prior to taking the bench. He also worked as a criminal and family support deputy prosecutor for Yakima County and Okanogan County during his legal career. He began his career as a judicial law clerk for Chelan County Superior Court. Judge Short received his law degree from the University of Montana School of Law and his undergraduate degree in philosophy from the William O. Douglas College at Central Washington University. He grew up on a cattle ranch along the Columbia River on the Colville Reservation.
